Former President Donald Trump is currently leading the 2024 GOP presidential field by quite a bit, according to the polls, but he still is a long way from officially snagging the party’s nomination.
But that hasn’t stopped the 45th president from considering potential running mate candidates, and he threw out yet another unconventional name this week: Former Fox News star Tucker Carlson.
During an interview on “The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show,” the hosts asked Trump if he’d consider Carlson.
“Oh, wow,” Trump said, going on to recount the massive viewership his interview with Carlson generated on the X platform in August, where he appeared instead of the first GOP primary debate.
“I like Tucker a lot, I guess I would,” he said, according to The Daily Beast.
“I think I’d say I would because he’s got great common sense. You know, when they say that you guys are conservative, or I’m conservative, it’s not that we’re conservative, we have common sense,” he added.

Several other names of potential running mates have surfaced as well.
In August, for instance, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) was said to be contemplating whether to become Trump’s 2024 running mate or make a bid for the U.S. Senate in 2026.
The outlet also said she has yet to decide whether to run against Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) or perhaps take a Cabinet position within a new Trump administration.
She said it would be “an honor” to be Trump’s veep choice, adding she’d consider being his running mate “very, very heavily.”
“I haven’t made up my mind whether I will do that or not,” Greene said, according to the paper. “I have a lot of things to think about. Am I going to be a part of President Trump’s Cabinet if he wins? Is it possible that I’ll be VP?”
Greene additionally criticized Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, who has fueled speculation about a potential Senate bid in 2026, over his response to the fourth indictment of Trump, which stemmed from charges filed by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
And last week, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) gave a strong hint that he wouldn’t mind being Trump’s running mate.
During a Sunday morning interview on Fox News, host Maria Bartiromo asked the Republican lawmaker if he would be interested in serving as Trump’s number two aide.
Bartiromo asked: “Congressman, I want to switch gears real quick. Ask you about 2024, because I know some people would have liked to see you get the gavel and become speaker, but others say, well, maybe you have a different road ahead. Would you accept the vice president position if Donald Trump asked you to be his partner?”

“Well, look, Maria, first of all, I’ll tell you first Speaker Mike Johnson, I am happy for him. He’s going to do a tremendous job leading the House of Representatives. You have a man of impeccable character, impeccable integrity, and the members have rallied around him,” Donalds responded.
“We’re going to get back to work and do our jobs with respect to being potentially on the ticket. That’s really up to the president. I have no control over that. The only thing I’ll say is I just want to do whatever I can to get our country on track. That’s what I’ve always been committed to. So no matter what the role is, it’s about getting our country back on track,” he added.
While Donalds is still a relatively new member of Congress, he is already a rising star in the Republican party. During all the chaos surrounding the speakership, other lawmakers and commentators have been pushing for Donalds to be promoted to leadership roles in the House.
